breathe in flowers, breathe out bubbles.Feeling nervous about driving is more common than you think
Many of our students arrive feeling anxious. Some have never sat behind the wheel. Some had a bad experience with a previous instructor. Some passed years ago and have barely driven since, and the thought of a busy roundabout or a motorway makes their heart race.
All of that is normal, and none of it means you can't become a safe, confident driver. It usually means you need a different kind of lesson: one that is calm, unhurried and built around you.
Ilona Mansoor is a DVSA-approved female driving instructor who specialises in exactly this. Lessons are quiet and encouraging. There is no shouting, no pressure, and no question is ever too small.

Why automatic helps nervous learners
In a manual car, a lot of your attention goes on the clutch and gears, and the fear of stalling at a junction is one of the biggest sources of stress for new drivers. In an automatic there is no clutch and no stalling. You can focus entirely on what matters: looking, planning and positioning the car.
Most nervous learners find they progress faster and feel calmer in an automatic, and an automatic licence lets you drive the hybrid and electric cars that are becoming the norm.
How your lessons work
- We start where you feel comfortable. Your first lesson can begin on quiet residential roads or in an empty car park. We only move on to busier roads when you are ready.
- Dual controls, always. The car has dual controls, so the instructor can step in at any moment. You are never on your own.
- Two-hour lessons. Our standard lesson is two hours, so there is time to settle in, practise without rushing and finish on a positive note.
- You set the pace. If a particular junction, roundabout or road worries you, we break it down step by step and repeat it until it feels routine.
- Clear feedback after every lesson. You always know what went well, what to work on next and how close you are to test standard.
Lessons for every kind of nervous driver
- Complete beginners who are anxious about starting.
- Learners who have had a bad experience with another instructor and want a fresh start.
- Full licence holders who passed years ago but have lost their confidence. Our refresher lessons are tailored to the roads you actually need to drive, whether that is the school run, the commute or a trip on the M1 or M25.
- Drivers who struggle with specific situations, such as large roundabouts, dual carriageways, motorways or driving at night.
Managing test-day nerves
Feeling nervous on test day is completely normal. Before your test we run full mock tests in test conditions on local test routes, so the real thing feels familiar. We also talk through simple techniques to stay calm, and on the day you warm up with your instructor before the test begins.
Frequently asked questions
I'm very anxious. Can I just try one lesson first?
Yes. Book a single 2-hour lesson with no commitment. Many nervous students start this way and decide afterwards.
Will I be put on busy roads straight away?
No. You start on quiet roads and only move on to busier ones when you and your instructor both feel you are ready.
I passed my test years ago but haven't driven since. Is this for me?
Yes. Refresher lessons are designed for exactly this, and we focus on the journeys you actually want to make.
Which areas do you cover?
